UrbanTec Brasil

Smart Solutions For Better Cities
Globally, more people live in urban areas than in rural areas. By 2050, 66 per cent of the world’s population is forecasted to be urban. Today, the most urbanized regions imply Northern America, Latin America and the Caribbean and Europe, however, all regions are expected to urbanize further over the next decades. Megacities and conurbations all over the world are facing similar huge challenges in the areas of mobility, infrastructure, wastewater, waste management, housing and energy.
UrbanTec Brasil is an international event about the best planning strategies, management and funding models for smart, sustainable urban development. The conference with an attendant exhibition also draws attention to a huge opportunity for creating a more sustainable Brazil and Latin America: investments in middle-size cities. Those towns between 250,000 and a million people are currently the cities with the highest growth rates, while still maintaining good indexes of human development and quality of life.
These new dynamic centers pose immense opportunities for sustainable investments, as their development is still manageable at this stage of growth. If middle-size cities manage to attract investment and engage in adequate urban planning processes to build sustainable mobility, energy and sanitation systems, twenty years from now urban centers in Latin America will be much more livable places.

•    UrbanTec Brasil is a customized platform for finding solutions to meet current and future urban challenges.
•    Decision-makers of infrastructure projects for megacities and medium-sized cities in Latin America will meet companies and service providers.
•    The focus will be on approaches to solutions for the current and future challenges of urbanization and mobility.
•    The event offers a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge about sustainable urban solutions implemented and emerging in Brazil and abroad.
In 2015 Koelnmesse GmbH will cooperate with the Brazilian think tank Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) to stage the debut of UrbanTec Brasil in Rio de Janeiro.
